What SY EF Means
SY EF is an evaporator fan failure on Electrolux’s service data sheet. The evaporator fan behind the freezer rear panel moves air over the cold coil and on into the fresh-food section; when it stops, both sections warm even though the compressor keeps running.
Common Causes of SY EF
- Evaporator fan blade iced from a defrost problem
- Fan motor failed
- Fan wiring or connector behind the freezer panel
- Main board not powering the fan
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the freezer and listen: with the door switch pressed, a running fan makes a soft whirring behind the rear panel. Look for frost on that panel; heavy frost can lock the fan blade. Keep food monitored with a thermometer.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The fan is behind the freezer rear panel, and a frozen fan usually means the defrost system also needs checking.
- Chipping ice off the fan can damage the coil and cause a refrigerant leak.
