What E71 / E72 Means
E71 means the outlet control thermistor circuit is open and E72 that it is shorted. The outlet thermistor measures exhaust air temperature so the dryer can regulate heat. Electrolux specifies 4.9 to 6.2 kilohms at room temperature (68 to 77 F); outside that range the thermistor or its wiring is replaced.
Common Causes of E71 / E72
- Outlet thermistor failed open (E71) or shorted (E72)
- Wiring to the thermistor broken or pinched
- Connector corroded
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
A thermistor code can follow a heavy lint build-up that damaged wiring near the exhaust. Clean the lint filter housing and the vent; beyond that, the thermistor needs service.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Without an exhaust temperature reading the dryer cannot control heat safely.
- The thermistor is mounted on the blower housing inside the cabinet.
