What E31 Means

E31 is an electronic pressure switch failure: the main board lost a usable signal from the pressure sensor that reads the water level. The chart’s check is the wiring between that sensor and the main board; if the wiring is sound, the sensor is replaced, and only after that the board.

Common Causes of E31

  • Loose or damaged wire between the pressure sensor and the main board
  • Pressure sensor failed electrically
  • Main board input for the sensor failed

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

There is little an owner can check safely beyond a restart. Unplug the washer for a full minute, plug it back in and start a Rinse and Spin. If E31 returns straight away, leave it unplugged and book service rather than running more cycles with no level reading.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Without a level reading the washer cannot know how much water is in the drum, so it may overfill or refuse to heat.
  • The sensor sits under the top panel beside the main board, and tracing its harness means working inside the cabinet.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

E31 FAQ

No. E31 means the sensor signal itself is bad. E13 is the code for a level that drops as if water or air were escaping.

It may clear for one cycle if a connection is marginal, but the code tends to return until the harness or sensor is dealt with.
