What i40 Means
i40 is the family code for the level-reading system. Electrolux’s US owner guide describes it as food soils built up in the sump and asks owners to clean the glass trap and filter. On the service side, the i40 family covers the analog pressure sensor that reads the water level (i41 to i46), and a heavily soiled sump is one reason that sensor misreads.
Common Causes of i40
- Food soil packed in the sump and glass trap
- Filter not seated after cleaning
- Pressure sensor or its harness failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Remove the lower rack and the filter assembly, including the fine glass trap, and wash them in the sink. Wipe out the sump. Reinstall the filter fully locked, then restart. Scraping plates before loading keeps the sump from filling up again.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The pressure sensor is under the tub; replacing it requires access from below.
- If i40 returns after cleaning, the sensor has to be tested.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
