What E31 / E32 Means
E31 and E32 come from the contact sensor, the pair of metal strips inside the drum that the clothes brush against so the dryer can judge moisture. E31 means the sensor signal frequency is too high, E32 that it is too low. Electrolux’s tech sheet lists two causes for both: the control board, or a foreign object interfering with the sensor.
Common Causes of E31 / E32
- Coin, pin or wrapper bridging the sensor bars
- Dryer-sheet residue coating the sensor
- Sensor wiring loose behind the front bulkhead
- Electronic control board sensing circuit failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the dryer unplugged, look at the two metal bars near the lint filter opening. Wipe them with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol to remove fabric-softener film, and check that no hairpin, coin or foil wrapper is lodged across them.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The sensor harness runs behind the front bulkhead, which comes off only after the front panel.
- The tech sheet replaces the control board only once the sensor and wiring are cleared.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
