What E65 Means
E65 means the high limit thermostat has tripped too many times. Electrolux names high vent restriction, a defective high limit thermostat, or, on electric models, a tripped inlet thermal limiter. Its service order is the thermal limiter first, then the exhaust vent system, then the high limit thermostat.
Common Causes of E65
- Exhaust vent clogged with lint or crushed behind the dryer
- Outside vent hood stuck shut
- High limit thermostat failing
- Inlet thermal limiter tripped (electric models)
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clean the lint filter and its slot. Go outside and check the vent hood flap opens freely when the dryer runs. Pull the dryer out and look for a crushed foil duct. A vent longer than the use and care guide allows, or clogged with lint, is the usual reason the limit keeps tripping.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A dryer that overheats repeatedly is a fire risk until the airflow is restored.
- The limiter and thermostat are replaced from inside the cabinet, and a tripped limiter often leaves heat damage to inspect.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
