What E42 Means
On the dryer, E42 is a door sensing failure. Electrolux’s owner guide gives the simple version, door open: make sure nothing blocks the door and that it is fully closed. The tech sheet’s service action, once the door itself checks out, is to replace the electronic control board.
Common Causes of E42
- Door not fully latched
- Garment caught in the door opening
- Door switch or strike damaged
- Control board not reading the door input
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open and close the door firmly and look for a sleeve or towel caught at the seal. Check that the door strike on the cabinet is not cracked. If the dryer is stacked, make sure the door is not rubbing on the washer below.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The door switch is mounted behind the front panel.
- A board replacement is only justified once the switch tests good.
