On the EFMG527UTT the heat comes from a gas burner instead of an element. The most common no-heat pattern is an igniter that glows and then goes dark without a flame, which points to the gas valve coils rather than the igniter itself.
A gas EFMG527UTT is also more sensitive to venting: combustion adds heat and moisture, and a long or crushed vent run triggers EF1 sooner than on the electric model.
