Most calls trace back to one of three systems: the filter and drain path under the lower rack, the water heating and rinse-aid dispensing that decides how clean and spot-free the load comes out, and the door latch and control board that decide whether the cycle runs at all. We start with the simplest of those — pulling and inspecting the lower filter — because a clogged filter accounts for a large share of “dishes aren’t getting clean” and “water left in the bottom” calls, and it costs nothing to rule out.

With the dishwasher unplugged or switched off at the breaker, the spray arms, filter assembly and door latch can all be reached and tested without opening the tub further. Where the water inlet valve, heating element or drain pump turns out to be the actual failure, that part is confirmed with a test before it goes on your estimate, and on an older unit we say plainly whether the repair still makes sense against the cost of a new dishwasher.
