What E21 Means
E21 is Electrolux’s long pump-out code: water did not leave the drum fast enough. The service chart first asks for a check of the drain hose, then for 120 VAC at the pump while it should be running; with voltage present and no draining, the pump is removed and checked for a blockage.
Common Causes of E21
- Drain pump filter packed with lint or small objects
- Drain hose kinked, crushed or blocked
- Drain pump impeller jammed or the pump motor failed
- No power reaching the pump from the main board
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
With the washer unplugged and a shallow pan and towels ready, open the small access door at the lower front and slowly unscrew the drain pump filter; expect water to come out. Clear coins, hair ties and lint from the filter and its housing. Then make sure the drain hose is not crushed behind the machine and does not push more than a few inches down the standpipe.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The voltage test at the pump is made with the machine running, on live 120 V terminals.
- A pump that has voltage and still will not turn has to be removed from beneath the tub, which usually means tilting a heavy, water-filled washer.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
