What E42 Means
E42 is a door lock device failure: the washer commanded the lock and did not get confirmation that it locked. Electrolux’s article describes it as the door lock not being recognized. The lock assembly, its striker and the lock wiring are the usual suspects.
Common Causes of E42
- Door lock assembly worn or its lock switch failed
- Striker misaligned so the lock cannot engage
- Wiring or connector at the lock loose
- Main board not driving the lock
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close the door with a firm push and start a short cycle while listening at the door. A click followed by E42 suggests the lock moved but did not report back; no click at all suggests it is not being powered. Check the striker for damage and that nothing blocks the latch opening.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A washer that cannot confirm its lock will not run, and bypassing the lock is dangerous with a spinning drum.
- Replacing the lock requires peeling back the door boot and releasing its clamp.
