What E68 Means
E68 is current leakage to ground on the heater, or a fuse opened. Test 13 checks the resistance between ground and both heater terminals, which should be open with the heater wires disconnected; any reading means the element has broken down and is leaking to the tub.
Common Causes of E68
- Heating element sheath cracked and leaking to ground
- Water in the heater connection area
- Fuse in the heating circuit opened
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Stop using hot or sanitize cycles. If the washer trips a GFCI receptacle or breaker when it heats, leave it unplugged and book service; do not reset the GFCI repeatedly.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Current leaking to ground from a water heater inside a metal tub is an electrical safety hazard.
- The element is replaced from under the tub and must be sealed correctly or it leaks.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
