Usually not the dryer itself — a long or restricted exhaust vent run is the most common cause, and a moisture-sensing dryer will simply keep running additional cycles until it detects the load as dry rather than stopping short. With the dryer unplugged and cool, clear the lint filter and check the vent run behind it; if drying is still slow with both clear, the heating element or the moisture sensor needs testing.

That clicking is usually the igniter attempting to light the gas valve and failing, which can mean a worn igniter, a dirty flame sensor or a gas valve that is not opening. If you ever smell gas at any point, do not attempt to reset anything yourself — leave the dryer alone, open a window if it is safe to do so, and call from outside the house.

It can be hard to notice on a load that is only lightly wrinkled to begin with, since the steam effect is subtle by design. If you have compared it directly against a normal cycle on the same load and still see no difference, the steam generator or its water line into the drum is worth checking.
